Criminal Case Against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton Moved

A Houston judge has ordered Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s criminal case back to his home base of Collin County, according to the Houston Chronicle. 

Paxton was indicted five years ago on felony securities fraud charges. The case has been in limbo due to issues related to where the trial should take place and the amount special prosecutors will be paid.

Prosecutors argue they can’t get a fair trial in Collin County, which Paxton used to represent in the state Legislature. Paxton’s wife now represents the area.

“We sincerely hope that the special prosecutors will rethink their earlier, knee jerk statement that they plan to appeal Judge Johnson’s well-reasoned ruling,” said Paxton attorney Philip Hilder . “This case has been in limbo for much of the 5 years that it has gone on. It’s time for the prosecution to get it on.”

Prosecutors intend to appeal. 

Paxton is accused of  misleading investors in a financial services company from before his time as attorney general.
