Texas Shoppers Guide: Stores Open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day 2026

Whether you forgot the champagne or need last-minute party supplies to ring in 2026, many major retailers will be open on New Year’s Eve, though hours may be limited. Some stores, however, will close entirely on New Year’s Day, KXAN reported.

Here’s what shoppers can expect:

Stores Open on New Year’s Eve but Closed on New Year’s Day

Several grocery stores and retailers will shut their doors on January 1 after operating with limited hours on New Year’s Eve:

  • Ace Hardware (most locations open New Year’s Eve, closed New Year’s Day)
  • Aldi (closes at 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve; closed New Year’s Day)
  • Costco (open 10 a.m.–6 p.m. New Year’s Eve; closed New Year’s Day)
  • Sam’s Club (regular hours New Year’s Eve; closed New Year’s Day)
  • Trader Joe’s (generally closes at 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve; closed New Year’s Day)
  • Kroger pharmacies (close early New Year’s Eve; closed New Year’s Day)

Stores Open on Both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

Many national retailers and grocery chains will remain open for both holidays, often with adjusted hours:

  • Athleta
  • Banana Republic
  • Best Buy (closes early New Year’s Eve)
  • Cabela’s / Bass Pro Shops
  • CVS (some locations and pharmacies may have limited hours)
  • Dick’s Sporting Goods
  • Dollar General (normal hours both days)
  • Gap
  • Giant Eagle (adjusted store and pharmacy hours)
  • Hobby Lobby
  • Home Depot
  • HomeGoods / HomeSense
  • IKEA (early closing, New Year’s Eve)
  • Kohl’s
  • Kroger stores (pharmacies closed New Year’s Day)
  • Lowe’s
  • Macy’s
  • Marshalls
  • Old Navy
  • Petco
  • PetSmart
  • Publix (adjusted hours both days)
  • REI
  • Sierra
  • Target (some services closed New Year’s Day)
  • TJ Maxx
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart
  • Wegmans (pharmacies closed New Year’s Day)
  • Whole Foods (8 a.m.–9 p.m. New Year’s Eve; 9 a.m.–8 p.m. New Year’s Day)

Gas stations and convenience stores are also expected to remain open, particularly for late-night or early-morning stops.

Because hours can vary by location and by in-store services like pharmacies or vision centers, shoppers are encouraged to check directly with their local store before heading out. By Friday, January 2, most retailers are expected to return to normal operating hours.
