Texas Senator John Whitmire Announces He Will Run For Reelection

Sen. Whitmire was one of the “Texas 11” who broke quorum in 2003 over Congressional redistricting efforts. He has since witnessed his colleagues use the same techniques during the current special session.

“Don’t listen to outside influences,” Whitmire said, providing the lawmakers with some advice on the decision to break quorum. “Stay in touch with the people that sent you to Austin.”

Sen. Whitmire announced his intent to run on July 16.

“I’ve got a lot of fight left in me,” said Sen. Whitmire after he made the announcement.

Whitmire was elected to the Senate in 1982 and has served Texas since.
