Helen Kerwin Secures Victory In HD 58 Runoff Election

The runoff elections for Texas House District 58 concluded on Tuesday night, marking a pivotal moment in a particularly intense election cycle. The heightened stakes were driven by the efforts of Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton, whose influence pushed eight incumbents into runoff races.

Notably, Helen Kerwin who won the runoff for HD 58 was backed by Abbott after former incumbent Rep. Dwayne Burns voted against vouchers. At the time this article was published, Kerwin had received 7,670 votes (57.5%) against Burns who received 5,660 votes (42.5%).

In HD 58’s primary election Kerwin, secured the most votes with 11,519 votes (49 percent). Burns garnered 9,706 votes (41 percent). Kerwin’s campaign received high-profile endorsements from former President Donald Trump, Governor Greg Abbott, and Texas AG Ken Paxton.
